SourceForts Expanded Rules
Build Phase
- Construct a strong, defensible fort.
Work together and communicate your ideas and plans to make a strong fort that everyone knows how to use. Don't assume that people understand what you are going to do; remember that players of all levels of experience are playing.
- Do not obstruct players or block spawns.
Do not be AFK in the spawn, stand in a doorway (in the spawn or anywhere on the map), or stand in the way of someone who is trying to build. The best way to build forts are to divide the tasks and not get too many people working on the same task. Walls go up quicker if you have one person building it rather than four. Be considerate and be aware.
- Stay on your side of the build wall.
Some maps have glitches or exploits that allow you to cross over the build wall. Under no circumstances are you allowed to cross this during the Build Phase.
- Interfere with your teammate's blocks only with their permission.
This means don't grief. Always ask before you change someones pieces. Don't add to their wall without asking and don't remove from their wall without asking. Ideally one should communicate their ideas, but this doesn't always happen, so make sure to ask in case their plans aren't the same as yours. Many times players that are more skilled think it is ok to take down a wall made by someone who is new to the game. This is not ok. Ask them first, tell them that you will show them a better way to make the wall and help them learn how to do it. Always look at the timer before you start taking stuff down; don't expect time to be added because you want to redo a wall.
- Spawn only as many blocks as you need.
Some maps do not have block destroyers, so it is important to only spawn the blocks you need. On other maps there is a set number of blocks already spawned. Do not shoot them all out into the middle as this causes all of your blocks to freeze up and you will not be able to move them. On these maps use the blocks wisely, because you can't trade a cube for a 2x3. We suggest you use the 2x3s for the main wall first and then any left overs can be used for other purposes. If there is a block spawner, don't spawn too many blocks because they can also freeze up. There is a block limit; don't waste tons of blocks on things that are not necessary. If you want to make a sniper tower try to make it so multiple people can use it, while also using as few blocks as possible. On some maps it is impossible to make a sniper tower because the main wall requires so many blocks and you just can't spare the blocks. Remember that the main wall and flag defense are first priority.
- Do not build spinners for any reason.
Don't build a spinner for any reason. They are not allowed on the server even if it is just for the build phase. You can not build one to "practice" and then take it down. Just don't build them.
Combat Phase
- Work together to defeat the enemy team.
Remember this is Capture the Flag not Death Match; work together to get the enemy's flag. Do not worry about getting the most kills. Sometimes players will try to get as many kills as possible to boost their score on the score chart. The only number that is important on the score chart is the team score at the top. Many times the best CTF player on the team will be at the bottom because he doesn't go for kills, only the flag. This is especially true if you have a flag drop because he never gets the points for scoring. It is much more satisfying to have your team dominate the other team than to lose and have the highest kills. Make sure that you are aware when someone has the flag and where they are going. If you have the flag be sure to communicate where you are going so people can cover you. Snipers: Sometimes you tend to get your own sniper vs sniper game going and you are oblivious to the rest of the game. Try to be aware of the team game; this means watch your walls for engineers, cover the guy with the flag, check to make sure no one is in your base and take time to look around to see where you are needed. Sometimes enemy scouts will not shoot at you when they are right next to you, so make sure to look around, and not just rely on the gunfire to alert you or you could lose a lot of flags.
- Do not camp player spawns or ramps.
Do not block the ramps out of your base. It hinders your team. Snipers need to be especially aware of this. Do not block your spawn doors or go AFK in spawn. Going AFK in the spawn can prevent your allies from spawning, easily costing your team a flag capture or allowing the team to get a flag capture even if you are only gone for a few seconds. If you need to go AFK real quick, move to a corner in the spawn to free up the spawn locations. Remember this is a team game and you don't want to hurt your team, so be aware.
- Avoid leaving your keyboard during gameplay.
If you must go to the bathroom or get away from the keyboard for a minute make sure you move to a safe spot (like your spawn) and move to a corner so you don't block the spawn locations. If you are going to be AFK for a long time please disconnect if the server is close to full, if it is not go ahead and reconnect, but don't join a team. This keeps our player count up, making more players join, but it also keeps you out of the way.
- Play fairly, no hacking or exploits are allowed.
No third party programs are allowed. No spinners are allowed. No scripting or exploiting is allowed. We do allow engineer cannons because it is using the game physics. If not everyone is allowed to do it, then it's probably not allowed. If you have any questions, contact a ZenDeath admin.
